Understanding Domain Pricing in Nepal: Hidden Costs to Avoid

Break down registration vs renewal pricing, understand promo prices, and spot hidden fees before committing.

Domain pricing in Nepal can be confusing. Advertised prices don't always tell the full story. Here's what you're actually paying.

Registration vs. Renewal Pricing

The biggest pricing trap: first year price is often much lower than renewal price.

Example:

  • .online domain — रू199 first year, रू1,200 renewal
  • .xyz domain — रू318 first year, रू1,500 renewal

Always check renewal pricing before registering.

WHOIS Privacy: Free vs. Paid

WHOIS privacy hides your contact information from public databases.

Cost across Nepal registrars:

  • TLDNepal: Free, included automatically
  • Most others: रू500-रू800/year extra

If a registrar advertises ".com for रू1,200" but charges रू700 for privacy, your real cost is रू1,900.

Transfer Fees

Some registrars charge transfer fees on top of extension. At TLDNepal, transfer includes 1-year extension at standard renewal price.

Domain Redemption Fees

If your domain expires and you miss the grace period:

  • Grace period recovery: Pay standard renewal price
  • Redemption period: रू8,000-रू15,000
  • After redemption: Domain is released

Enable auto-renewal to avoid redemption fees entirely.

How to Spot Hidden Costs

  1. Check renewal pricing before registering 2. Review cart before payment for surprise add-ons 3. Read fine print on promotional domains 4. Calculate 5-year total cost of ownership

Compare transparent pricing across Nepal registrars.
